Brazilian here (ignore the Spanish name, it’s just a joke — we speak Portuguese here). For those surprised, yes, Latin America has always had the reputation of being corrupt, and Hollywood movies have always portrayed it that way.

But here’s an interesting fact: the only dictatorship we had in Brazil happened with the help of the US. In reality, we are a very hardworking people who strive as much as possible to achieve a decent quality of life. Just like in many countries, the right wing took over our nation, with false promises and exaltation of God and family.

Fortunately, things are changing. A wave of radical left wing is beginning to resonate among young people, and we have hopes that things will change.

And to give you some context, those who are not dazzled by US propaganda actually see the US as a corrupt, petty, and violent country. Nowadays, our view of the US is as a nation where there exists only an extreme right wing and a moderate one that enjoys dropping bombs on people with non-white skin.

In the end, I’d like to say: it’s time to look at your distant friends — AMERICA is not the US, AMERICA is the entire continent, with Canadian, US, Mexican, Colombian, Brazilian, and other brothers and sisters.

To our friends from other countries, I hope you can soon feel a similar victory — it was very satisfying for us Brazilians to achieve this one. Bolsonaro and his crew not only planned a coup, but were also responsible for the death of 700,000 people during the pandemic.

In the end, we will prevail, my friends!

So as usual with this story every comment here is about the US.  The thing is if you want this to happen in your country you have to make the culture expect it as the routine outcome.  


The Brazilians would probably have gotten a lot angrier if justice wasn't done here, but in the US it seems like people just want to wait and hope that the system will finally come down on their side.  But when the system is actively being rigged farther and farther against you, it's not going to happen unless the people make it known that they won't accept things as they are.
